Cairns social jetski ride calendar 2011

These dates are set up for group rides and social days.

All responsibility for insurances and behaviour is up to the individual, needless to say we would really like to return to the locations we travel too more than once, so it would be appreciated if respect can be shown to other boaties and commercial craft as well as adhere to any speed limits and the general jetski boating rules.

Ocean riders should carry their own safety gear and at least a sand anchor, if not a normal anchor as well.

On some of the longer ocean rides there may be a need to carry additional fuel and water depending on your ski's range.

Rides outside the partially smooth zones will require each rider to carry an EPIRB and flares.

Ultimately the responsibility for carrying your own safety gear is your own.

Apart from all that, the intention is to get amongst it.

March 13th

Meet at Yorkeys Knob 08.30am for a ride to Green Island for coffee, from there we can either part company should you wish to return or we can continue across to Fitzroy Island for Lunch. Return in the afternoon.

April 10th

Meet at the boat ramp at the sugar shed at 08.30am for a ride out through the leads and then across to Fitzroy Island. From there we can either part company should you wish to return or we can backtrack to Green Island for lunch. Return in the afternoon.

Meet at Yorkeys Knob boat ramp at 08.30am for a trip up the coast to Port Douglas. We will stop for lunch at Port Douglas then return in the afternoon.

June 12th

Meet up at Tinaburra day use area at approximately 09.30am for a social day up on the dam. All kinds of skis are welcome. Dig out the old stand up jet skis and bring the kids and we can smash em around on the tubes.

July 10th

Meet at Yorkeys Knob boat ramp at 08.30am for a ride to Upolu cay. Perhaps a social game of cricket if we have the numbers, then return via Green Island for lunch.

August 14th

Meet at the boat ramp at Deeral at 9.00am for a ride out to the Frankland Isles, and surrounding coast line.

September 18th

Tentatively we might book the water ski campground at Tinaburra for the weekend, overnight camping will be $10.00 per head, bring your own tent, Winnebago, swag, whatever you require and we can use the toilet, shower, cooking, refrigeration and BBQ facilities already there. Stand up jet skis will be encouraged as well as runabouts here.

October 2nd

Meet at the boat ramp at Bingil bay at 9am for a ride over to Dunk Island, Bedarra, and some of the other beautiful Islands in that group.

November 3rd

This would have to have permits applied for but we are thinking along the lines of the following:

"Ellis Beach short course slalom"

Stand up classes and runabouts.

We think this could take the form of a time trial.

No more than 1 ski on the track at any one time, race against the clock.

Ask Ellis beach surf club to assist us with setting up the course.

January 28th 2012

Units Hospital Fundracer. Cairns to Fitzroy and back same format as last year, date to be confirmed……………

Our Objective:

Our aim here is to set up a social calendar where we can get together and really exploit the potential of these awesome machines. The idea for this has come about after Units Fundraising Ride for the Cairns Base Hospital Foundation. The inaugural ride attracted over 20 skis and it was thought by some of us that there may be enough interest to take this a step further.

At present this a new idea for this area and we are interested to see if the concept will be taken up.

There is already a jetski club alive and kicking in Townsville who hold regular race meetings on the Ross River and on the water out front of the Strand. They also have social rides over to and around Magnetic Island amongst others.

Cairns once had a thriving jetski community, and when you look around you, its not hard to see why, the climate is perfect for year round boating.

Members of the steering committee on this are as follows: Chris Atkins Richie Jerrett Frank Tsang. Bren Turner gets honorary mention for being a large inspiration for this. Anyone with any ideas for rides, concepts or future plans, we are wide open to suggestions for example an overnight ocean ride with a sleep over on an Island, ride around Hinchinbrook island, trip to Cooktown,
